Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

After the latest update of network-manager on Kubuntu Jaunty, I get a this message:

[ 9956.529859] wlan0: beacon loss from AP 0000000000000000 - sending probe request

repeated numerous times, about 100 seconds apart, in the dmesg. The same message appears in the syslog. The message only appears when I am connected to my network using wireless. I have not had a chance to test it on another network (and will not, for several days) but I have never seen this message before this update. When the message appears, the wireless connection does not drop, reduce in performance, have a lag spike, or any other noticeable problem. My wireless card is the Intel WiFi Link 4965ABGN. If it makes a difference, I am using the drivers from the linux-backports-modules package.

same thing happening here, only difference is i'm running ubuntu jaunty.
the message started appearing after installing the linux-backports-modules.
without the linux-backports-modules i get the "MAC is in deep sleep!" message

The same thing happens with the 2.6.29 kernel from the Ubuntu Kernel Team PPA and the latest compat-wireless packages. I am setting this to Confirmed

I should also add that occasionally when the probe mentioned in the dmesg output does not succeed, the connection drops and reconnects immediately.

does this also happen without backport modules?

I just installed the latest compat-wireless package, and the problem seems to have gone away on both kernels.

And, I have noticed that occasionally, when the router does not respond to the probe, the connection drops and reconnecis.

This is not an issue in network-manager, but in the mac80211 stack. It has been fixed already in the latest kernel in Karmic.
