Brightness Keys Dont Do Anything

Bug Description

This is for Kubuntu, I didnt see a choice for it on the list of distrobutions.

in Ubuntu 9.04 the Brightness keys work perfectly changing the brightness on my Samsung NC10 Netbook
in Kubuntu 9.04 the brightness keys do not change the brightness at all.

I can confirm the exact same symthoms in the latest Kubuntu lucy alpha (including updates), the brighness keys work correct in Ubuntu (lucid) but do nothing in Kubuntu.

With xbacklight I can change the backlight.

I just discovered that changing the backlight with
echo 100 > /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/DD04/brightness
does also work

The minimum required BIOS version is 11Ca because "brightness controls require BIOS 11CA due to the new graphics system. " as seen at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NC10#Karmic%209.10 Please note that the issue about completely enabling/disabling baclight (eg screen on/off) with Fn-F5 button is tracked at bug 296489.
