I tried your test-script and it does NOT freeze my system with Kernel 2.6.29-02062902-generic (from PPA).
But (as said before) I occasionally get freezes using this Kernel. Less frequently then before using the standard kernel 2.6.28 but they happen.
So my assumption is, that your test-script does only reproduce one bug which causes a freeze but there is at least one more bug also causing freezes.
I will try your script with the default 2.6.28 kernel later.
