Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu jaunty 64 bit
Release: 9.04

EDIT: Seems the problem only occurs when the open source radeon drivers are used. I had been using the Catalyst 9.4 drivers for the last few months with no issues, but now I have switched to the open source drivers to fix some other issues I had.

Upon suspend, the sleep light will "snooze" and the computer will properly suspend, but when resume is attempted, the screen will not turn on again and there is no HDD access. I think it's definitely a problem with the graphics card drivers, as I think it might be resuming but just not turning on the screen.

EDIT #2: I'm going to report a new bug, as this one pertains to older images and an alpha release.

NEW BUG REPORT: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/438470

---------------------

The computer ran out of battery and went into suspend mode. Plugged into AC and then tried to resume and the computer started up and accessed the drives but the monitor remained blank.

Same here with Toshiba Satellite Pro A100. Resume doesn't work.

I'm also using jaunty (ati graphic card with default jaunty driver). A few weeks ago it worked with jaunty. At the moment it doesn't.

Hi Benjamin,

This may be related to the fact that the battery ran out. Can you comment when the battery is charged does suspend/resume work? Similarly when plugged into AC is it successful? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume also contains some general information that may be interesting. Thanks.

@Andreas, assuming you have the same hardware are the original bug reporter Benjamin, can you run the following command to automatically gather and attach debug information. Otherwise you should open a new bug report. Thanks.

apport-collect -p linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic 343318

I experience the exact same problem. But only when I activate the desktop effects I have tried many times to fix the problem - but no luck..

Has anybody find any solution?

Problem was fixed for a few months while I used the Catalyst closed-source drivers, but now I have switched to the open-source radeon driver and the bug is back.
