Bug Description
(update I: 8.04.2 install works, but I still need 8.10 for various reasons [e.g. 8.04 doesn't recognize my network card, among other things]; reinforces the possibility that this is a real bug)
(update II: i just _upgraded_ from 8.04.2 to 8.10, and that finally worked!)
Machine: Intel q9400 quad-core, 1Gb RAM, 150Gb HD
I tried installing Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 (64-bit), 8.10 alternate (64-bit), and 8.10 alternate (32-bit). In each case, I finish the manual partitioning (guided also fails), and during the installation, in the "Select and install software," it unhappily exists the install window and displays the following error message:
Killed
[1241.760152] Kernel panic - not syncing: Out of memory and no killable processes...
(Occasionally, it just exists and displays "Killed Killed Killed" as if possessed.)
I checked the HD for bad sectors, did a memory test, and checked the install CD. All report to be fine.
Please, someone help!

Hi Boris,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http:// cdimage. ubuntu. com/releases/ lucid.
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications- >Accessories- >Terminal) . It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.
apport-collect -p linux 343038
Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream- testing' text. Please let us know your results.
Thanks in advance.
