USB soundcard unusable through usb-hub

Bug Description

When I try using my USB-soundcard through my USB-hub, the kernel spews this error into the logs _a_lot_:

cannot submit datapipe for urb 0, err = -38

and errormessages from the program goes like "pipe error", or
ALSA lib pcm_direct.c:900:(snd_pcm_direct_initialize_slave) unable to install hw params

The soundcard worked fine in 2.6.12-10, the latest kernel in breezy. If I plug it directly into the computer it works as it should.

I have the same problem too.
USB Audio works fine if I use USB 1.1 Hub (uhci_hcd), but it fails if using USB 2.0 Hub (ehci_hcd).

Note: I'm using Alsa with OSS-Emulation.

Same problem with cheapo PU552 USB 3D SOUND adapter with Feisty, kernel version 2.6.20-16-generic. This seems to be the same as

Could you please download and try the new version of Ubuntu from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download and report back your results. I have had this same problem since fiesty (when I started using ubuntu). I have a 2.0 powered usb hub and a plantronics dsp-500 headsets. I have tried it with a 1.1 usb hub and it does work fine. Not really knowing the problem relied in the kernel, i have tried every distro ubuntu has to offer and they all have the same problem. It usually ranges from, the sound not working at all from boot, music programs(Amarok,Exaile, and more) crashing, and the song just plays 2 seconds and then the sound cuts out when the music is still playing (Have to restart the song multiple times or pause and unpause for it to work). I hope there is some progress in this problem because I am limited in usb ports on my laptop.

P.S: All the information is attached I am currently using Xubuntu 7.10 , but the problem is still here in every flavor of ubuntu.

I think USB sound cards always should be plugged in directly in the computer especially if it's a USB speaker. It gets more electricity from the machine if directly connected. Most USB hubs are bad quality too and best if you don't use them at all especially with complicated hardware.

It unfortunately looks like this bug didn't get resolved in previous releases. Can anyone confirm this is still an issue with the more recent Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release? I've opened a "linux" kernel task so this remains open against the actively developed kernel.

Additionally, the 18 month support period for Feisty Fawn 7.04 has reached it's end of life - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-7.04-end-of-life . As a result we are closing the linux-source-2.6.20 task. This also does not qualify for a Stable Release Update against 2.6.15 - http://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . Thanks.
