Laptop speakers don't mute when headphone is connected

Ubuntu Intrepid 10.8 installed on Samsung X11 laptop computer. When headphone is plugged in the jack, the in-built speakers don't mute. The problem doesn't happen when the laptop is started with Windows Vista. I've tried many solutions found googling the internet, but unfortunately non of them solved my problem. The system description is as follows:

I have a Fujitsu P7230 laptop. It has the Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02). I can confirm that this problem still exists with the Ubuntu 9.04 beta Live CD. When I connect my headphones, they work, but the speakers do not mute. This used to work before pulse audio, now it doesn't.
