Bug Description

Ubuntu 9.04 as of 2/3/09 update

Playing music files sound stutters

Playing video sound and video stutters

After disabling XFI driver and reverting to onboard sound I initally I thought there were no problems but the bug is intermittent.

Its very strange, sometimes when I open a music/video file it plays fine and then other times it struggles to play with stutters and pops. Sometimes it gradually sorts itself out other times it stop playing stops altogether.

Totem error message

An error occurred
Disconnected : connection terminated

If the music/video file starts playing correctly, it continues to.

Supicious dmesg line (directly after error):

[ 5851.644064] pulseaudio[3605]: segfault at b77f4b60 ip b77f4b60 sp bff1f81c error 4 in module-null-sink.so[b781d000+3000]

This leads me to believe it's a pulseaudio problem.

I'm surprised that there are no other reports of this error, things that might single me out are TV Card (tda10045) (disabled), XFI card (disabled), using ext4 filesystem.

Hello, if 16/3 update means the 16th of March, 2009, then I now have this exact same issue. Which, happened around approximately 16/3.

So, I would like the re-open this bug.

Have this problem, too. It appeared yesterday the first time. It only affects video in totem/vlc. Video starts playing, stops after a minute or so. No sound problems, besides of sound is broken after program crash... I made no changes to pulse or anything else and had no problems till now. I don't know which informations to provide. Please tell me what you need. Thanks in advance

Changed CPU-freq from Ondemand to Performance, following this hint:

This ugly workaround leads me to the thought that Pulseaoudio is innocent (for once :) )...

Also, I find this in my logs:
[ 41.004849] hda-intel: IRQ timing workaround is activated for card #0. Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj.

The Audio stutters whenever volume is changed (inc/dec)

Also, the Sound Volume control Program behaves sluggishly..

It as working fine prior to Jaunty upgrade.

I just installed Jaunty the other day and am finding that video, .wmv files, sometimes play about double speed and sound sometimes has noise in it. If I close the file and reopen it is often OK. Any suggestions? Thanks

Still affects me, only MPlayer can provide decent playback (GStreamer, Xine, VLC all stutter and crash).

I do also want to note that Skype, that I run directly to dmix (with a special .asoundrc) also stutters and crashes. One time is maxed and then lowered the volume to zero again Skype died.

I know Skype is a closed source application and nothing you can fix, but I doubt it has anything to do with this specific bug.

I have also noted a new issue with my audio going into the mute mode automatically when I re-boot my laptop. This may be related to the audio and video stuttering problem in Jaunty....

I have the same issue, which started after I upgraded from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04.

Every time I play a video in Totem, I get the "Disconnected: Connection Terminated" message.

I did a complete removal of the alsa, pulseaudio, totem, and vlc packages (and related packages). I added vlc since it also had issues playing any videos at all. I then did a clean reinstall of them all, this did not help the issue though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need me to provide any further information, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks in advance,
~TJC
