Bug Description

acer aspire 7730 laptop.

Using the preferences in the volume control, i finally managed to get the headphones working by turning off and on the 'surround' option. After this the main speakers continued to output.

I can confirm this. What happens to me is that the output works on the headphones/output, but sounds also still comes out on the main speakers.

I think this might be relatet to some quirks with acer and autosense fixes done in alsa-drivers-1.0.19

Hi,

I'm having Acer Aspire 5738G with Ubuntu 9.04.
Output on lspci is the same as reported in original bug text:
Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

The same problem on my side as reported - no sound on headphones plugged in from them, only built in speakers work all the time.

I've found solution here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7785954

it's in adding to:
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
following line:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

this solves the problem.

However my wish is that Ubuntu would run on any HW out of the box without any command line hacks.
Therefor if possible, please do this fix automatically somehow.

thanks
hope it helps
