Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in linux.

For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. Please include the information requested from the "Reporting Sound Bugs" section of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems as separate attachments.

Also, I've been unable to reproduce your issue on Ubuntu 8.10. Can you reproduce this issue with an Ubuntu LIVE CD and report back if the problem still exists on Ubuntu 8.10 LIVE CD?

One other thing, can you please file a separate bug for the keyboard issues you are having, if you are able to reproduce them on the Ubuntu LIVE CD?

The sound issue appears to be resolved. Someone suggested disabling the on-board sound---which I did by
disconnected two jumper pins. The sound didn`t return initially but a day later, it was working.
Thanks to all for your assistance- Regards, Al

I'm having the NO SOUND issue again- Dec 23- 09.. Actually, I have not had sound for quite a while now- making due.
This happened again after I allowed update to new Operating System of Ubuntu. Sound card- Creative Sound Blaster 4832
,speakers plugged in, all muting plus speakers turned on "checked". All ok there... But NO SOUND.
Perhaps someone has some ideas on how to resolve this matter again.
Tks. Al
