Bug Description

Hello,
I'm using Kubuntu Dapper Drake fully upgraded as of 14th February 2006. I'm running it on a Packard Bell Easynote R8720.
The problem I've got is with my PCMCIA SD card reader, a ENE CB-710 recognised by the kernel as stated in lspci

Well, when i insert an SD card in the slot, my keyboard fully stops functioning, doesn't matter what I type I don't get any input. Mouse works ok though, and everything else seems to work ok. When I take the SD card out of the slot everything that I had been typing on the keyboard gets input again.

These are last lines from dmesg

[4294780.009000] mmc0: Card removed during transfer!
[4294780.009000] mmc0: Resetting controller.

The logs tell me more or less the same /var/log/syslog

Feb 14 21:34:30 localhost kernel: [4296859.557000] mmc0: Card removed during transfer!
Feb 14 21:34:30 localhost kernel: [4296859.557000] mmc0: Resetting controller.

Feb 14 21:34:30 localhost kernel: [4296859.578000] mmc0: Resetting controller.

PCMCIA cards used to work but I havent tried them yet in 6.06, tried them in 5.10.
As I'm not sure where the error is exactly coming from I can't do any debug, if you can point me in any directions I'm willing to help, I really wanna see this working. Thanks for all your help and keep up the good work!

The sdhci driver seems slightly unhappy with ENE hardware. I'll see what we can do.

I just discovered that if i put the card in the slot and leave it there for like 1-2 minutes it ends up working being recognised and automounted in KDE. The keyboard works well once it's recognised but wont work till then. Still, i can use my memory stick now, not perfectly but it's very good indeed! Thanks for the good work!

I am running Ubuntu Dapper F6, and have a similar problem. The keayboard stops responding and all.

But when the keyboard returns, I do not get a mounted SD-drive.

This is output from syslog (the maintainer has been mailed as instructed):

Is this still a problem with Dapper or with Edgy? Thanks.

Still a problem with edgy, dont know about dapper. I have tried compiling
vanilla kernel a-la-debian but kernel-package bug stops me from doing so.

I can confirm this problem on Edgy and Feisty.

I have a zd7000 with a CB710, and nothing happens when I put an SD Card in the Card Reader. Waiting a few minutes doesn't help.

Same here, Ive seen fixes for the 712 but those that I have tried are ineefective for the 710. Can anybody offer theory or possible fixes for this? Its the only thing keeping my laptop from 100% functioning.

I have same problem in Ubuntu Gutsy.

Added today (18.01.08): affects linux-source-2.6.22-14.47-generic

->No affect of inserting a SD-Card

dmesg and /var/log/syslog give no corresponding output to the Input of a SD-Card

Is there no chance of getting the specifications from ENE after some years now?
Not worth a try to manually mount it?

Hi,

Just adding a note that we'll be keeping this report open against the actively developed kernel. However, against linux-source-2.6.15, linux-source-2.6.17, and linux-source-2.6.22 this bug does not meet the criteria for a stable release update and is being closed. You can learn more about the stable release update process at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . Thanks!

To date, only PCI_DEVICE_ID_ENE_CB712_SD, PCI_DEVICE_ID_ENE_CB712_SD_2, PCI_DEVICE_ID_ENE_CB714_SD, and PCI_DEVICE_ID_ENE_CB714_SD_2 are supported by the kernel. These macros correspond to PCI subvendor IDs 0550H, 0551H, 0750H, and 0751H.

You will, or course, notice that the ENE CB-710 is not in that list.
