Bug Description

Ubuntu Intrepid has crashed three times successively on my Dell M1210 laptop. Each time it froze while the Caps Lock and Scroll Lock lights blinked. It would not respond to any input until a hard reboot. The first time was with a session that had been running for several hours. Deluge was running, but I don't believe it was using much bandwidth. (I don't know if that's relevant, but several people reporting similar bugs have had it happen during periods of high bandwidth use.) The second two crashes happened shortly after startup, while I was attempting to investigate the first crash. During those, Miro was running (it starts automatically), and Deluge may have been as well (I don't recall). I don't have any Internet apps running right now except for Firefox and Pidgin (I killed Miro as soon as it started). I've been using Intrepid for a while now, and this is the first time this has happened. I don't believe I've made any relevant system changes recently, but I couldn't swear to it.

I'll post the log files here. If there's any other info I can give you, feel free to ask. Thanks!

zorblek: thanks for your report, what you did experience was a kernel panic. In order to debug it we need to find something that triggers the behaviour. According to your explanation it could be caused by a memory leak (all ram exhausted) but it could be anything.

The thing is, as this was reported about a year ago, is still happenning for you?

Can you check with Jaunty?

Thanks in advance

I have not had this problem in Jaunty. I actually believe I solved it by
reformatting and doing a clean install. I'm not 100% sure. At any rate, it's
no longer an issue for me. Thanks for checking, though!

I'm using acer aspire one netbook aoa150 getting kernel panic when using firefox 3.5pre on jaunty. This has happened before on firefox 3.0 as well. I pasted contents from restart to restart of my /var/log/messages on pastebin.com sounds to me to be same as this bug located here [Bug 353766] [NEW] kernel panic when using firefox on Acer Aspire One, my messages are at the link below, thx

note about above statement i post prior. This happens when I was downloading vmware esxi and vmware server at the same time, maybe overload bandwidth for wireless or firefox? This is a default install of jaunty with perfectbuntu script from category5.tv website and thats it. Ibex had the same problem like this for me. Finally got around to posting this for you to look at. thx

another note: I was able to reproduce this behavior at least 5 times by downloading esxi and server from vmware at the same time. The attached /var/log/messages should give you more info.
