Bug Description

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 - and latest ALSA (1.1.18a).

After restart amixer defaults to default settings.

I checked with ALSA design this must be an Ubuntu/Debian specific issue.

It seems that either a link /var/lib/alsa/asound.state to /etc/asound.state is needed
or that /etc/init.d/alsa-utils needs to be updated within the restore section accordingly.
/etc/asound.state is hardcoded by Alsa.

With the link in /var/lib/alsa/ I managed to get it working.

Hi.

Alsa design refered me to below patch. This patch explains it. Debian is patching alsa-utils to put asound.state
under /var/lib/alsa instead of /etc

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-alsa/trunk/alsa-utils/debian/patches/move_asound_state_to_var.patch?op=file&rev=0&sc=0

This is why "manual" Alsa upgrades, without these patches will come up with this problem.
