wrong grub/menu.lst (wrong hardrive) upgraded after apt-getting new linux-image

Bug Description

I have two harddisks.
on /dev/sda are Hardy 32bit
on /dev/sdb are Intrepid 64bit

Bios boots on MBR of sda. There are normal grub, with one line pointing to Hardy and one line pointing to Intrepid (dualboot).

I apt-get upgrade my Intrepids kernel, and it updates its own /boot/grub/menu.lst. This is not what I excepted, but I do not know what else it could do.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug.

Could you please attach your /boot/grub/menu.lst to this bug report and also attach the contents of /var/log/apt?

This is the menu.lst which is in use (and it works). I made modifications by hand.

This is what apt-gets postinstall made for me. But this grub is not in use.

this is not an issue with linux, but grub
however (afaik) grub doesn't search in other partitions for kernels
the solution to this is: usually there are soft links /vmlinuz and /initrd.img that point to the latest {kernel|initrd} version, and installing a new kernel updates those links
so if you point your grub to those, you're done (that's how I do it)

affects: linux (Ubuntu) → grub (Ubuntu)

Grub legacy is no longer being developed, so this will not be fixed. Please upgrade to grub2 and it should correctly detect the kernels from the other disk and add them to its menu.
