Bug Description

After resume from suspend, there is no wifi available. This still occurs if I uncheck 'enable wireless' beforehand and then re-enable afterwards. A complete reboot is required to make it work.

This is the wifi chipset:
Atheros AR242x 802.11abg
uname -a:
Linux sylph 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Hi,

you are talking about the network-manager-applet in the panel, right?
If so, you can right-click on it and uncheck "Enable wireless".

haha, I had no idea you could right click it. ... ok, but it doesn't seem to completely turn off my wireless card, my reasoning here being that if I suspend-to-ram my wireless gets confused (won't work without restart), and this still occurs if I uncheck 'enable wireless' beforehand and then reenable afterwards.

:) Is there a better way to check whether your card got totally turned off? In absence of an indicator light that is.

Don't know... Usually there is a killswitch near the wireless card.

That is a bug, so lets collect more information.

Please attach your complete /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages files to this report after reproducing (after resume from suspend and trying to connect).

Also attach the file this command creates:
* lspci -vvnn >> ~/303599_lspci-vvnn.txt (In home dir)

And the output from:
* uname -a

Thanks in advance!

OK, I still think there should be a way to completely turn off my wifi though... :) Macs don't have a switch for it.

I am not sure what exactly happens when you uncheck "Enable wireless". Perhaps it unloads the module(read driver) or put it in some "pause mode". If so, there will be _no_ wireless available in that hardware until the module is loaded again.

This is the wifi chipset we are talking about:
Atheros AR242x 802.11abg
uname -a:
Linux sylph 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

During resume, the module is loaded(good thing), but for some reason the link times out when it attempt to connect(this is the bad thing).

(So, there is a bug somewhere, and it sound kernel related. Moving into linux)
