Bug Description
Compal CL56 laptops have a 'software' wireless switch. On laptops with an older BIOS version this wireless switch is disabled by default and wireless will not work. After modprobe acerhk the wireless can be enabled with echo 1 > /proc/driver/
The acerhk.ko kernel module is also required for application key support. After modprobe acerhk the two application keys work without further configuration.

The acerhk module should probably(?) be loaded in hotkey-setup as this is where the sonypi module is also loaded.
Please can you provide the output of:
sudo dmidecode -s system-manufacturer
sudo dmidecode -s system-product-name
so we can identify this laptop.
