Hi, thanks for reporting this bug.

Please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems and attach any output you get. The alsa-script is probably the important part.
Also attach the resulting file from this command:
* sudo lspci -vvnn > ~/301140_lspci-vvnn.txt

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the attachments.

Just to clarify, you are using your pavillion dv6000 built-in mic and Flash can't record from it, right?

Can Sound Recorder record sound? Or vlc? Have you tried with an external mic? Are you seeing any error messages? Are the volume settings set correctly (have a look in gnome-volume-properties)?

Which version of Flash are you using? Run the following in a terminal:
* apt-cache policy flashplugin-nonfree

Sound Recorder does indeed work and I have not seen any errors. Ustream will access my cam fine,it just won't pick up sound.
Yes I am using the built in mic and cam. As for volume I've spent a few days tweaking them just to get my mic to work so they should be fine.

Hi

I'm not sure how ustream works, it tries to capture mic _through_ the flash-plugin, right? So the service is completely web-based and no special app is installed on your system?

Flash-plugin has its own settings, right-click on a flash movie (inside the web browser, of course) and click settings. Have a look at the privacy tab and mic tab and make sure the settings are correct, and that ustream.tv has permission to listen to you...

im using flash10 and the pulldown list for microphones has just one entry "linux microphone". i assume that is a built-in mic but my laptop has no built-in mic. the mic in my logitech usb webcam works in ubuntu just fine (sound preferences panel test will playback my voice) so its a flash problem of enumerating the microphones.

a work-around or something would be helpful if one exists. specifically im using ustream.tv to record video and audio.

Donpdonp has the same issue I reported.

When i look at the privacy tab its all set to go. It will access my webcam like it should but its still not looking at my microphone.

Hi,

I'm using ubuntu intrepid Ibex 64 bit as well. Running on sony vaio vgn-sz4.
I've got built in mic, got also mic headphones with jacks and another one with usb.
I can record sound in Sound recorder from all of them, also skype works fine.
Despite quite big effort I coudn't make flash 10 to capture the sound. Built in cam is fine for me in flash as well. Mic settings in flash shows only Linux Microphone. What ever it is It just doesn't capture any sound.

I have tried to set index=0 for usb audio in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base as suggested here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=408453

I have also upgraded to latest pulse audio from source http://ppa.launchpad.net/crimsun/ubuntu
https://launchpad.net/~crimsun/+archive

nothing helped.

"General webcam and microphone functionality is not enabled. (239246)". Maybe that's it?

FWIW I have the same issue on a HP 6730b. Mic works perfectly, only not in the flash plugin.

- apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree
- download libflashplayer-10.0.d21.1.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz from the adobe site
- put the .so in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins
- and restarting firefox worked for me.

Ugly workaround of course, this isn't updated automagically.

Hakaryu, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Intrepid reached EOL on April 30, 2010.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue on a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
