Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-laptop-mode

New install of 64 bit 8.10 Ubuntu on new HP G60 laptop with AMD CPU and Nvidia graphics. Restricted drivers are used for the video card. All updates applied. Laptop suspends and power button blinks but does not return when power button is pressed. Mouse pointer comes back and screen is black but nothing else. A cold reboot is required to restart.

Hi Tom,

Care to test the latest pre-release of Jaunty 9.04 (currently Alpha4) - http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/ . It contains an updated 2.6.28 based kernel. It would be good to know if this issue remains. You should be able to test suspend via a LiveCD. If the issue remains, per the kernel team's bug policy, can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback.

@Fodder, are you able to possibly ssh into the system after you attempt to resume? If so, would you be able to capture and attach your dmesg output after ssh'ing in?

@Fodder,

If you could take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume and attach the requested information outlined there that would be great. Thanks.

A little more info:
After suspend, the laptop wakes up, but is hung. dmesg.log is from after following the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend instructions.

The system wont hibernate. I tried running the subsystem tests listed on the URL you provided. The system hangs after the following:
# echo devices > /sys/power/pm_test
# echo platform > /sys/power/disk
# echo disk > /sys/power/state

I also noticed that boot/shutdown works fine on AC but on battery power boot/shutdown hangs unless you hold down a key on the keyboard.

Just want to try and keep this report up to date. Care to test and confirm this remains with the latest Karmic 9.10 release? ISO CD images can be found at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ . You should be able to test using a LiveCD. Thanks.
