Bug Description

Exact same problem for 2.6.27-9-generic an IBM T30 Thinkpad and an Acer AspireOne.

/*This is using 2.6.27-7-generic, and I had the same problem in Hardy which is the only other version of ubuntu i've tried*/

My sound card is a Conexant cx20459(venice), or Intel 82801GB (ICH7 Family) HDA Audio. My laptop is a P105-s9337.
Everything runs perfectly until I suspend and then resume, which causes my sound to disappear. At first I thought that the sound was gone, but one day I turned the Master volume and PCM to 100% and put my ear on the speaker while playing music and I could just barely hear the music playing. I cannot hear anything when my ear is not physical on the speaker.
alsa force-reload, /etc/init.d/alsa-utils (stop|start|restart), CTRL+ALT+F6 then CTRL+ALT+F7 are some of the methods that do not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would also like to point out that this can be fixed by restarting or hibernating, until the next suspend.
Also, I added 'options snd-hda-intel model=laptop-micsense' to my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base file in order to fix the headphone problem.

I did a clean install of ubuntu 8.10 yesterday and this did not fix the sound

Hi v17al,

Care to test the latest pre-release of Jaunty 9.04 (currently Alpha4) - http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/ . It contains an updated 2.6.28 based kernel. It would be good to know if this issue remains. You should be able to test suspend via a LiveCD. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

Hello Leann,

I tried out Jaunty and I wasn't able to resume from suspend. It suspends and then when I try to resume the fans and leds start up but not the screen.

Can you reproduce either symptom (failure to resume/inaudible audio post-resume) using the vanilla kernel build at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~apw/mainline/v2.6.29-rc5/ ?

The new kernel couldn't resume from suspend whatsoever.

Hey, I am currently using Jaunty and it's still the same. I never got to trying out the vanilla kernel, was busy with school and never got to it. I've been looking for solutions (again) and I cannot seem to find anything new, I'm guessing most users have just done like me and gotten used to restarting instead of sleeping their laptops. Anyways if anyone has anything new to suggest that would be awesome!

Thanks,

Matt

Just want to try to keep this report up to date. Care to test and confirm this issue remains with the latest development release of Ubuntu (ie Karmic). ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . You should be able to test suspend using a LiveCD if you didn't want to install/upgrade just yet. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

I have a similar problem with thinkpad R32. Hibernate and resume cause my sound to disappear.

Same here. Dell Precision M4400, clean 9.10 x86_64 Desktop install and updated. Sound works after a fresh boot and is gone after hibernation. /etc/init.d/pulseaudio restart doesn't fix it. Check out the complaints about ALSA in the logs below.
