i got the hdaps working for now by downloading the smapi drivers from http://tpctl.sourceforge.net/

i then untarred, did 'make HDAPS=1', and then insmod hdaps.ko. this is on thinkpad x200s. i'd love to see the module incorporated into mainline ubuntu.
