What do you mean by "other media"? Do you mean playing a CD, playing songs from a USB-attached music player, Flash, non-Rhythmbox-desktop-media-players?

I have solved the problem by installing latest alsa linuxant driver:
http://www.linuxant.com/alsa-driver/alsa-driver-linuxant_1.0.18git20081020-1_all.deb
Everything works now.

I have only these errors now in the log:
Oct 29 00:00:10 MIDAS pulseaudio[6680]: module-x11-xsmp.c: X11 session manager not running.
Oct 29 00:00:10 MIDAS pulseaudio[6680]: module.c: Failed to load module "module-x11-xsmp" (argument: ""): initialization failed.

Setting as package linux, since it seems to be a driver issue, though I'm still not sure about this.
