2008-10-30 06:35:28 Dirk description I purchased a brand new laptop model: HP 6930p with Intel 4500MHD graphics and Intel 82801I (ICH9) HD Audio, and I installed Intrepid with the latest updates. I have the following problems: - The buttons for controlling the brightness (Fn F9/F10) don't work. xev does not show any events for these buttons. Trying to write values into /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/DD0?/brightness has no effect. - Upon connect/disconnect the AC power, there is a little pop-up on the screen indicating that the brightness goes up or down, but there is no change in brightness. - If booted with AC connected, the brightness is high; if booted on battery, brightness is low. This won't change until reboot. - Fn F8 is supposed to display a battery status bubble, but it doesn't. sudo acpi_fakekey 236 has no effect either. When I press Fn F8, xev reports keycode 244. - Once Gnome starts, the mute light comes on. I cannot switch this off using any of the various volume controls and I have no sound on the front speakers. (Since the physical button has a problem as well, I have no way to un-mute. However, when I boot from the original Vista disk, I can control the mute from the GUI and I do get sound.) Audio output on the headset jack is ok, and I can mute the sound from the GUI. It seems that the mute light reflects the front speakers only. ALl volume up/down controls (physical and GUI) seem to work fine. I do not see any of these problems when I boot my older laptop (HP NC6000) from an Intrepid CD. The volume settings, on the other hand, work ok. I do not see any of these problems when I boot my older laptop (HP NC6000) from an Intrepid CD.
