Thanks for your report.

You've removed grub on the 2008-10-08

Removing grub ...

Purging configuration files for grub ...

Processing triggers for man-db ...

Log ended: 2008-10-08 22:27:35

Then when you've installed the latest kernel the installation failed with the following error:
etting up linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic (2.6.27-7.10) ...

Running depmod.

update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-7-generic

Could not find postinst hook script [update-grub].

Looked in: '/bin', '/sbin', '/usr/bin', '/usr/sbin'

dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic (--configure):

subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2

You can reinstall grub to workaround this.

A user can remove grub because it's only a recommend and not a dependency of the kernel.

Thanks again for your help to make Ubuntu better.

Yes, I removed grub, because grub on another Ubuntu installation (Hardy) is managing the boot environment.
