Bug Description

Hi.
I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xa 2528 notebook (datasheet: http://sp.fujitsu-siemens.com/dmsp/docs/ds_amilo_xa_2528_29.pdf).
I experienced a problem with several Linux distros concerning a faulty detection of SATA drives (I made the request here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=916885&highlight=xa+2528, but I have had no response yet), so I was advised to test Intrepid Ibex Alpha 5.
That problem seemed solved, but another one came up:
   1. I launch the boot CD
   2. I choose the first option
   3. The system loads until the line "Clocksource tsc unstable"
I tried several options, including noacpi, acpi=off, clocksource=hpet, clocksource=acpi_pm, notsc.
Perhaps some of them might work, but disabling ACPI triggers the old problem I had with the previous editions.
I'm at your disposal for every question you might have.

Hi Grispa,

I believe the Alpha5 image contains the 2.6.27-2 kernel which I've heard has this issue you've reported. However, I've had confirmation that the 2.6.27-3 kernel resolves this. Would you be willing to test the latest daily LiveCD which I believe should contain the newer 2.6.27-3 kernel. You should be able to get the latest daily image from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/. If you could please test and let us know your results that would be great. Thanks.

Hi again,
it is my sad duty to report you that the Daily Build (16 september 2008) of Intrepid Ibex, DID NOT fix my problem.
I've yet to try with command-line options, but right now nothing changed.
The pattern of the error is the same.
Hope to hear from you soon..
Thank you for the patience..

In spirit of thoroughness i inform you that the problem MAY NOT be present in the Testing and Unstable editions of Debian.
I say "may" because other issues came up (specifically with the boot loader) which prevented me from having a complete boot.
I intend to give it another shot tomorrow (here it's 11:40 pm).
I'll let you know..

The problem is present in the Intrepid Ibex Alpha 6 release too.

same problen here with a toshiba laptop with P4 2.8 GHZ using the option noapic solved the problem, but this has only appeared since intrepid ibex.

PS this is with the 2.6.27-7 kernel after installing intrepid ibex as an upgrade from 8.04.1

The only other thing besides using no apic that lets the system continue at a regular speed is when Ctrl or Alt or both are depressed after the freeze..
