Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-20-generic

I have two versions of the kernel-image package installed. When trying to suspend with 2.6.24-20 (or -21) it fails and crashes. When I try with the old 2.6.24-19 it works.

If I remember correctly, the crash is a kernel ooops. I will try to catch what it says the next time I reboot with the new kernel.

Is this perhaps related to bug #253225?

Hi Henrik,

The upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release is actively being worked on. In fact, Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 which will contain a newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel is set to be released today. Would you be willing to test this latest Alpha5 release just to confirm this will still be an issue or not for Intrepid. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Regarding testing out the 2.6.27 kernel - will Hardy Heron be using that kernel as well in a future update? Since Hardy is an LTS release it seems unlikely to go that path. This bug was introduced by a kernel update within the same release and therefore is a regresseion and introduction of a new bug in already released software.

I will test 2.6.27 as soon as I can and provide feedback. But I think that this bug should be resolved with an update to Hardy and correct the introduced bug.

Thanks!

Hi Henrik,

Have you had the chance to test Intrepid yet? The reason I ask is that in order for a bug to qualify for a Stable Release Update it needs to be confirmed as fixed in the actively developed release - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . As of today, the actively developed release is now the upcoming Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release. So if this issue remains with Intrepid, if you could then test the latest pre-release of Jaunty 9.04 that would be great - http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/ . You should be able to test both Intrepid and Jaunty via a LiveCD. Thanks.

This bug report is being closed because we received no response to the previous inquiry for information. Please reopen if this is still an issue in the current Ubuntu release, Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 - http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download. If the issue remains in Jaunty, please test the latest upstream kernel build - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . To reopen the bug, click on the current status under the Status column and change the status back to "New". Thanks.
