Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-19-virtual

The standard kernel is compiled with the options

CONFIG_NF_CONNTRACK_EVENTS=y
CONFIG_NF_CT_NETLINK=m

But that options arent setted into the 'virtual' kernels:

# CONFIG_NF_CONNTRACK_EVENTS is not set
# CONFIG_NF_CT_NETLINK is not set

And that options are a requirement for the conntrack-tools (http://conntrack-tools.netfilter.org/install.html).

So, with a Ubuntu installed on a VMWare machine i'm unable to use the conntrack tool (neither the one in conntrack package nor the one in conntrack-tools package).

Hi jcmsice,

I'm not sure if the kernel team will consider this SRU worthy (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) but I'll leave it to their discretion. Thanks.

Accepted into -proposed, please test and give feedback here. Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

I can confirm that the virtual kernel image in hardy-updates, 2.6.24-19.41 does not have CONFIG_NF_CONNTRACK_EVENTS or CONFIG_NF_CT_NETLINK enabled and that conntrack fails to work (tested with conntrack -L). I have also verified that the version in hardy-proposed, linux-image-2.6.24-21-virtual-2.6.24-21.42 does have these config options enabled and that conntrack minimally appears to work (no error when conntrack -L is invoked).
