Bug Description

When make my laptop (running the latest Hardy 8.04.1) return from suspension, it will not run the Proprietary drivers.

These are the Non-free drivers that are needed for my machine:
-Atheros Hardware Access Layer (HAL)
-Support for Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN cards
-NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver

The first two drivers are for my D-Link wireless network card. (this laptop is old enough that it needs an extra card for wireless) When I suspend while using the card, it is recognized when I return, but will not connect to any network. If I reboot, then it works just fine. I ran the Hardware Testing Wisard, and got this error:
ERROR:root:Could not find def gateway info in /proc
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/hwtest/scripts/internet_test", line 132, in <module>
    sys.exit(main(sys.argv[1:]))
  File "/usr/share/hwtest/scripts/internet_test", line 118, in main
    host = route.get_default_gateway()
  File "/usr/share/hwtest/scripts/internet_test", line 81, in get_default_gateway
    t1 = self._get_default_gateway_from_bin_route()
  File "/usr/share/hwtest/scripts/internet_test", line 69, in _get_default_gateway_from_bin_route
    if def_gateway:

When I enable the NVIDIA driver, (I have an NVIDIA GeForce Go video card) I cannot get a screen when I return from suspension. All the lights turn on, but the computer is black and I cannot get it to respond to anything short of unplugging the battery. I've disabled this driver because the video card is too lame to handle

I have had similar problems after hibernating, but those haven't been as consistent.

If it is important, here's some info on the machine: you might want to know that my computer has 503.0 MiB of RAM and 478.47 MiB of SWAP. I know the general rule is twice the SWAP, but I can't get gparted to resize the SWAP, even using the live CD. The root partition is ext2 (should I be using ext3?). It is a Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop with the memory upgraded to max.

Right now, I'm not sure if the problem with suspension in my laptop is with the Ubuntu Proprietary Drivers software or if it is with the non-free software used to make some of my hardware work.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in linux.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

The Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Beta release was most recently announced - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/beta . It contains the 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. It would be great if you could test and verify if this is still an issue. The status is being set to Incomplete until we receive further feedback. Thanks.

This particular bug has been resolved in the new 8.10 release.

-Since the NVidia Legacy driver is nolonger supported, there is no problem with it anymore.

-The problem with the atheros wireless card driver (ath_pci) was simply resolved as documented in Intrepid's release notes:

//quote//
Wireless devices that use the ath_pci kernel driver, such as the Atheros AR5212 wireless card, will be unable to connect to the network after using suspend and resume. To work around this issue, users can create a file /etc/pm/config.d/madwifi containing the single line:

SUSPEND_MODULES=ath_pci

This will cause the module to be unloaded before suspend and reloaded on resume.
//quote//

Now I'm having problem with the sound, but thanks anyway!
