Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04
Kernel: 2.6.24-19-generic

USB adapter for 2 playstation controllers. HID 0925:8866 This adapter is sold by different names and different cases, I acquired mine through ebay.

When plugged in the device is recognized but does not function. It seems this has been an issue with past kernels and patches have been developed, however, I cannot find the appropriate file in the source to patch so I was unable to try out the fixes. Here is a link to a patch for 2.6.14: http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb-devel&m=114038593204406&w=2

Hi barney_1,

The patch you referenced is already included in the Hardy 2.6.24 kernel:

ogasawara@yoji:~/ubuntu-hardy/drivers/hid$ grep -rn USB_DEVICE_ID_DUAL_USB_JOYPAD *
usbhid/hid-quirks.c:371:#define USB_DEVICE_ID_DUAL_USB_JOYPAD 0x8866
usbhid/hid-quirks.c:558: { USB_VENDOR_ID_WISEGROUP, USB_DEVICE_ID_DUAL_USB_JOYPAD, HID_QUIRK_NOGET | HID_QUIRK_MULTI_INPUT },

Since the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release is actively being developed, care to confirm this is still an issue with the latest Alpha for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10. You should be able to test via a LiveCD - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing. Please let us know your results. If the issue still exists, per the kernel team's bug policy, can you please attach the following information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment.

* cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* lsusb > lsusb.log

For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies .

Additionally, beginning with the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 development cycle the linux-ubuntu-modules package was actually merged with the linux kernel package. Going forward, bugs that would have been reported against linux-ubuntu-modules should now just be reported against linux. I'll go ahead and add the 'linux' task for this report. However, against linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 this will be closed as it does not qualify for a Stable Release Update - http://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . Thanks.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Thanks for your attention on this bug report. Unfortunately I've been out of town since before your first response and will not be returning for 5 more days. I can certainly test out the Alpha5 livecd as well as install the new package and get the reports to you, but I can't do it until the morning of 09/02/08. Sorry about that.

I have installed the 4.6.27 kernel and still get the same problems as when I initially filed the report. Three attachments as requested.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
