Bug Description

When I boot Ubuntu 8.04 with kernels 2.6.24-16-386 2.6.24-17-386 2.6.24-18-386
it seems not to recognize the partitions correct.
They are named sda, sdb when I check with gparted.

If I chose an older kernel, 2.6.20-16-386 it works and the partitions gets the named hda, hdb and so on.

I attatch /var/log/fsck/checkfs for the corrupt and the OK kernel.
The other attached files

  ( uname-a.log, version.log, dmesg.log and lspci-vvnn.log )
was generated when I had booted with an OK kernel.

Please tell me if you need more info.

Thank you for taking the time to report this. However, it's not a bug, but just a change of the driver used for the harddisk. Maybe it's even improving your computing experience! ;)
If you do have problem because of this change, please feel free to post a reply, but I don't think something will go wrong.

Hi !

I still can't boot the new kernel. Is there any instruction ?
I have tried by changing hdX to sdX in /boot/grub/device.map and in /etc/fstab but it is not helping.
Is any more hacking needed ? I know some other people that also has problem.
