Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.24

OS: Kubuntu / Ubuntu Hardy Heron, 8.04
Hardware: Core2 Duo T7300, Intel Santa Rosa, i965 graphics chipset
Laptop: Littlebit Sepia X35 (Asus Z37E)

apt-cache policy linux-image-2.6.24-17-generic

On Hardy with kernel 2.6.24-16-generic I had suspend working on my laptop (it worked apart from the sound disappearing after suspension, see bug #25896).

However, with the updated kernel 2.6.24-17, suspend does not work anymore. The first part of the suspension process itself works and during sleep, the power LED is blinking as usual. However, I cannot wake up the laptop anymore. When I press the power button, the LED lights up, and I get some short harddrive activity and that was it, the screen stays black.

I can confirm this. After the kernel last night, my notebook is unable to resume anymore. SysRQ does not work either, so I have to make hard reboot.
I have a hp nx9020 with Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) using the intel driver.

After booting the previous kernel 2.6.24-16-generic resume works fine.

Works here with
Dell Vostro 1500
nVidia 8600 M GT (using the Beta-Driver)
Intel PRO/Wireless 4965 AGN
Same as before, maybe even faster.
Maybe only Intel-Graphic-Adapters are affected?

I have encountered similar error when updating to 2.6.24.16 to 2.6.24-17 using the automatic updates. Can someone tells me why this had happened.

Same bug here, Intel BLKDG965WHMKR motherboard, intel graphics, Core 2 Duo CPU (E6420).

Both suspend-to-RAM and suspend-to-disk are broken

Also does not work on my desktop. I changed this to confirmed as many people have seen the same issue. I also confirmed that booting with the 2.6.24-16 linux kernel fixed the issue, so this is definitely related to the recent updates to 2.6.24-17.

Changed in linux:
status: New → Confirmed

Also confirmed on a toshiba P100 (T2300/Nvidia 7600 Go/wifi 3945abg/Gb eth intel): Was working using -16 kernel (with usual s3 bios/mode quirks in hal as this laptop also suffer from bios acpi bugs), never works with -17.

On my side, /var/log/message shows that suspend hangs (and so, resume): Just after suspending PCI IRQ for 3945 abg wifi PCI ID (and before disk syncing: so bad!), suspend process hangs compared with successful suspends from -16 logs.

Another bug from this iwl3945 driver buggy like hell (sensitivity, ap scans, missing auth modes...): Please, ubuntu team, send back old but reliable ipw3945! At least, give the choice!

Regards

Confirming this bug on HP nx9420 / ATI Mobility X1600 / Intel Dual core T7200.

Running Ubuntu 8.04 - 32bit.
Problem: Updates on 30. may broke Suspend to Ram. Probably due to kernel -17. The laptop just hangs with a black screen on resume.
It has worked flawless earlier. Reverting to kernel -16 solves this issue.

Is there a fix? This is a major regression for laptops users.
