" PCI: BIOS BUG #81[49435000] " occured when I was checking the CD, it also occured when I try to install it on my laptop. I also tried it on 3 other laptops .
My computer : intel celeron 1.6G
memory 960M
hard disc 80G ata/sata
The 3 other coputers are better than mine.
I then istalled it on my coputer in Windows xp. And I succeeded installing it. But when I load ubuntu after it restarted. That boring sentence occured again.
Oh, Lord save me !!!!

I own a Gateway, model: ma3 or MX6447 and when I installed Ubuntu 7.10 I got this “bug found” notice: [29.614318] PCI: Bios bug#81[49435000] during the initial boot. As the computer continued to boot the screen falls blank, ( during the part when you would normally see the Ubuntu splash and the progress bar ). It boot's normally into the login window and the system runs fine (so far). Is there anything I should worry about? Is there a fix? I tried installing Ubuntu Hardy Heron, but I could not configure the wireless card properly so I reverted back to 7.10.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. Please include the output of the command 'uname -a' in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command 'dmesg > dmesg.log' and attach the resulting file 'dmesg.log' to this bug report.
3. Please run the command 'sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log' and attach the resulting file 'lspci-vvnn.log' to this bug report.
For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks in advance!

Claude here, I reinstalled Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS that I got in the mail from CANONICAL because of the internet wireless problems I was having on my Compaq Presario V6000 once I installed the Burned copy of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. And still I have this message showing up at boot up "PCI: Bios Bug #81[49435000] found". My internet wireless is a Boadcom Corp. BCM94311MCG (802.11 b/g WLAN mini-PCI).

Because this bug relates to the system's BIOS it is a hardware dependent bug and each system reporting a "BIOS bug" should be a separate bug report.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Thank you very much !
I'd like to tell you something .
The north bridge of my laptop is VIA VN896, while the south is VIA 8237.
I tried SUSE 11.0 on my computer. Yeach, it works well.
I have tried Fedora 9.0 and Ubuntu 8.04 before. But,none could start x-window.
I doubt that Fedora and Ubuntu don't have the drivers for my computer.
Will you give me some tips?
Thank you.
