New Note 3 bug report Hi helpy people. Finally got round to sorting out dual booting my laptop with Linux -ubuntu seemed the obvious choice, especially when someone told me about wubi. I got right on it, then left it for a while to get done. (so I'm new, right- sorry) It installed the newest ubuntu on the list, then when I booted into it it all looked shiney, but no wireless. No Worries. Plug it into the router et voila internet. The system starts to update itself and finds a driver for my wireless card do I want to install- of course blah blah. All good. restart the system and wireless is on. cool. After messing around with some stuff (checking the browser works, evolution setup for imap etc) I'm trying to get connected to my xbox- this turns out to be a little problematic but it's all part of the fun and an introduction to terminal screens and stuff. Still havent sussed it but while trying to figure that out found the system logs, thought they may give me insight. Noticed I'm getting regular Dec 1 22:29:09 ubuntu NetworkManager: [1228170549.252241] periodic_update(): Roamed from BSSID xx:xx:xx:xx:xx: (BeBox) to (none) ((none)) then about 6 seconds later Dec 1 22:29:15 ubuntu NetworkManager: [1228170555.256296] periodic_update(): Roamed from BSSID (none) ((none)) to xx:xx:xx:XX:XX:XX (BeBox) about every 2 mins this happens. Interspaced with (depending on what's running) regular Dec 1 22:29:17 ubuntu kernel: [ 1704.272137] APIC error on CPU0: 40(40) Dec 1 22:29:17 ubuntu kernel: [ 1704.284109] APIC error on CPU0: 40(40) Dec 1 22:30:17 ubuntu kernel: [ 1764.496265] APIC error on CPU0: 40(40) this is more typically twice a minute. Later I tried out "transmisssion" and this stepped up to around 10 per second- makes for a very long and dull log. This error starts just after the wlan is bound Had a hunt around on the net and found that regularly folks are advised to edit the startup sequence (greb?) to add "noapic" and/or "irqpoll" si I tried that. It stopped the errors (no surprise) but shortly there were others -invalid interups and decaying mouse behavior (again having done some research into "apic" no surprise) So that option was out. It sped up the transfer rate of "transmission" remarkably though so this looks like a big clue to the origin, could just be misleading though I guess. Enough yabbering. I'm running ubuntu 8.10 kernel 2-6-27-9 generic installed by Wubi (within a NTFS partition!!) Laptop is an Acer 3633WLMi Celeron M 370 processor From the hardware test SI7012 sound card (working fine) synaptic mouse pad (working fine) SIS900 PCI fas ethernet (rev 91) Ethernet (without wireless enabled gives no errors) broadcom corp BCM4318 Airforce one 54g 802.11g wireless LAN controller (rev2) gives errors when on even when switched of by hardware switch ERRORS STOP WHEN WIRELESS DISABLED BY NETWORK MANAGER The package I was trying to connect to the xbox with was ushare from the repository if this is relivant. The problem carried on after it was completely uninstalled, and ushare.conf manually rm from /etc from terminal. How do I attach the output of a terminal command? I'll copy and paste for now the output of lspci -vvnn as of now with wireless and ethernet (apparently) connected. xxxxxxxxx@ubuntu:~$ lspci -vvnn 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661FX/M661FX/M661MX Host [1039:0661] (rev 11) Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- Kernel driver in use: agpgart-sis Kernel modules: sis-agp 00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS AGP Port (virtual PCI-to-PCI bridge) [1039:0003] Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap- 66MHz+ UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- SERR- TAbort- Reset- FastB2B- PriDiscTmr- SecDiscTmr- DiscTmrStat- DiscTmrSERREn- Kernel modules: shpchp 00:02.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS963 [MuTIOL Media IO] [1039:0963] (rev 25) Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle+ MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap- 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- Kernel modules: snd-intel8x0m 00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] AC'97 Sound Controller [1039:7012] (rev a0) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0082] Control: I/O+ Mem- BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- Kernel driver in use: Intel ICH Kernel modules: snd-intel8x0 00:03.0 USB Controller [0c03]: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] USB 1.1 Controller [1039:7001] (rev 0f) (prog-if 10) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0082] Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV+ VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap- 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- TAbort- SERR- Kernel driver in use: ehci_hcd Kernel modules: ehci-hcd 00:04.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS900 PCI Fast Ethernet [1039:0900] (rev 91) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0082] Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- Kernel driver in use: sis900 Kernel modules: sis900 00:06.0 CardBus bridge [0607]: ENE Technology Inc CB1410 Cardbus Controller [1524:1410] (rev 01) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0082] Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- Reset+ 16bInt+ PostWrite+ 16-bit legacy interface ports at 0001 Kernel driver in use: yenta_cardbus Kernel modules: yenta_socket 00:0b.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4318] (rev 02) Subsystem: AMBIT Microsystem Corp.
