Bug Description
8.04 on a Sharp MM20 laptop (ATI Radeon Mobility graphics chipset) will partially boot, but as X starts, the screen goes blank (no display, no backlight). Cannot CTRL-ALT-F1 or CTRL-ALT-ESC... no effect.
If X is invoked from command prompt (using startx), system completely hangs.
Plugging in an external monitor will allow the laptop to boot normally (with display mirrored on both screens) but this is not a viable option for a portable system.
Xorg bug in the detection of the screen/graphics for this system?
