Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.04
PCI Id: 8086:284b

setting options snd-hda-intel model=fujitsu in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base made headphones work. But speakers do not mute when headphones are used.

I tried:
- model=laptop, model=auto (headphones do not work at all)
- install alsa with module assistant (no changes)
- get latest alsa (1.0.16) and install it manually (no changes)

Any suggestions?

Low volume output
High pitched noise
seems to be not a software issue.

So the only problem is speakers mute on headphones.

Do I need something else?

So would I be correct to summarize as follows:

Description: Laptop speakers still emit audio after headphones have been inserted.

Expected behaviour: Upon inserting the headphones, laptop speaker audio should be cut off / muted.

Actual behaviour: Upon inserting the headphones, laptop speaker audio is in fact still active.

This behaviour can be reproduced identically each time.

Yes, Jarlath. That's correct.

Additionally have to say that I have
options snd-hda-intel model=fujitsu
in my
 /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
otherwise headphones are not working at all.

Hi,

I also have the same problem. In Windows, internal speakers automatically mute when headphone is connected. In Ubuntu, internal speakers still emit sound. Very annoying.

Laptop: Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pa1510

I'm a beginner. No idea how to "build" things in Linux. If it's not too
difficult to explain, I'll give it a try.
Thanks

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Hello, today I've checked the new release of Ubuntu, the Interpid Ibex and I was really impressed. The bug was solved and now the GNOME volume control offers nice control. In the tab "Switches" are two options:
* Headphones
* Speakers
I've checked this on Live CD and this really works. So, now is my laptop fully supported by Linux.

This is still an issue on Hardy. However, my laptop is Hasee, not fujitsu. Is this considered fix-committed because it's working in Intrepid or will the fix be backported to Hardy?

If it's fixed in Intrepid and Jaunty, this bug can be closed. A request for backporting a fix to Hardy is however possible, see SRU in the wiki.

I've had a similar problem with Ubuntu 9.04 on my Lenovo Y530. Changing to 8.10 and 8.04 didn't help. Unlike some of the other people though, my headphones worked from the beginning - the only question's been the sound turning off.

I am running 9.04 on a Fujitsu Lifebook. This last update introduced a variety of sound issues, so I can't determine if this bug is new or not.

Basically:
* Headphone track in mixer has no effect on any sound outputs
* "Front" track affects both laptop speakers and headphones

I had the same problem too and this is how I solved it.

-Open Terminal and type "alsamixer" at the prompt
-When the Alsamixer App opens, use the left/right to select the "Headphone" Channel
- The "Headphone Jack Sense" Parameter was set to "Off". I think this is the default setting. Press "M" to toggle this On/Off. I switched this on.
-Exit from the App by pressing "Esc" and presto, the speakers cut off when the headphone jack was inserted into the input port.

I think the PC does not sense the presence of the earphones when it is plugged in by default, as it is set to "Off". Switching this "On" did the trick for me.

Hope this helps the rest of you trying to solve this problem....

Thanks so much Isaia!! This problem existed for me with karmic koala.....and I've been pulling my hair out because
there are no separate options for headphone channel with the new gnome sound prefs program...I never thought about using the alsamixer....things seem so different now with pulseaudio, I didn't even think alsamixer was installed.

Anyway, thanks again....now I can finally use just my tv speakers....w00t!
