Bug Description

When I hot plug a sandisk media player into ubuntu hardy with latest updates I get the following dmesg:

[ 3179.176331] usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
[ 3179.486033] ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.7: port 5 reset error -110
[ 3179.486165] hub 1-0:1.0: hub_port_status failed (err = -32)

The drive fails to mount, and the media player doesn't charge either.

This problem is absent on Gutsy. I believe this is because usb devices aren't handled by ehci_hcd. Other USB hard drives, mice, and flash drives work fine with Hardy.

I don't know what package this goes with. I'm also not sure what I should add onto this, so I'll shotgun it.

If you plug the usb player in before the computer starts up, it's detected as a scsi device and mounts fine, but opening up rhythmbox dismounts the drive with the same errors above as well as rhythmbox.

if you run

modprobe -r ehci_hcd

then plug in the media player, it is detected, but only if the media player is in msc mode, and not mtp. mtp mode gives another error.

Hi Matt,

This seems like it is a duplicate of bug 88746. Please confirm. I realize there are lot of additional comments/discussions to sift through but one of the more important ones is from one of our kernel developers:

yep, it is a dup... it doesn't look like this problem is going to be solved for a while :(
