Bug Description

Today's updates brought about a new kernel image (linux 2.6.24-16-generic). After a reboot, I booted into the new kernel but the machine hanged in the boot process. I waited about 5 mins, but had no luck. I checked all my log files for any more information on this problem, but nothing got logged. Any pointers as to how I can provide more information about this problem?

My Hardware:
HP Pavilion dv2000t
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz (T7200)
2gb RAM

Thanks Guys

Hi Juan,

Sorry for the issues :( A patch temporarily went into resolve bugs like bug 212100 and bug 212271. However this caused the issue you reported here. This patch has been reverted and a new linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-16.22 was just published and should be making it's way around to the mirrors. This should resolve the boot issues you were seeing. Please let us know your results when you're able to test. Thanks, and sorry again for the trouble.

Leann,

The reverted modules fixed the issue, thanks. When I boot into this kernel X server goes into low-graphics mode. Should this kernel have also installed the correct restricted modules for my nvidia graphics card. What's the correct procedure to recompile the nvidia kernel interface (module), or download the correct precompiled module?

Thanks

Hi Juan,

Sorry for the delayed response. The linux-restricted-modules package contains the nvidia drivers. I imagine making sure this package is installed should resolve the graphics issue you are (or were) seeing. I'm going to mark this report as "Fix Released" for now as the original boot issues you were seeing have been resolved. Feel free to open a new bug report if you are witnessing further issues. Thanks.
