Bug Description
Audio broke with a kernel update. Using newer kernels than 2.6.24-12, I have no access to volumes/mixer.
I get the following errors:
No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.
audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument
The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.
You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu.
This is what I use for audio:
Affected Devices:
00:05.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce Audio Processing Unit (rev a2)
00:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 AC97 Audio Controler (MCP) (rev a1)
Does anyone know of new instructions to set-up nForce2 AC97?

This look like the same problem on my Acer Aspire 9810 with kernel 2.6.24-15.
$cat /proc/asound/cards
--- no soundcards ---
but KinfoCentre reports that I have an intel 82801G (ICH7) HD audio controller
It use to work. even with hardy up until yesterday. Now it can't even see the sound card.
