Just testing on an Acer Travelmate 6292 with Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 1, fully updated. It plays some sound but you can hardly hear it, even with maximum system volume.

cat /proc/asound/cards says:

+ 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
                      HDA Intel at 0xf0500000 irq 22
 1 [pcsp ]: PC-Speaker - pcsp
                      Internal PC-Speaker at port 0x61

head -n 1 /proc/asound/card0/codec* says

==> /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 <==
Codec: Realtek ALC268

==> /proc/asound/card0/codec#1 <==
Codec: LSI ID 1040

I tested with Ubuntu 8.04 before, and volume was a little better there.

Please execute the alsa-info.sh script referenced from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems and attach the URL here.

The attached asoundrc is pretty useless, as it doesn't change anything from default.

This seems fixed for Ubuntu 8.10 (as of today) for an Acer Travelmate 6292.

Hi Daniel,

sorry, I have been away for a while, switched to Intrepid in the meantime.
Still the same issue though so nothing has changed actually.
I still need the line: snd-hda-intel model=full_dig
in alsa-base to let it work correctly.

Yes, the asoundrc is default and therefor theoretically pretty useless indeed, strangely enough it didn't work without it which caused me a kind of "WTF?!?" reaction, I was baffeled ! :-)
In intrepid this is no longer needed btw.

Thanks for your reaction btw, and thank you for your help. I really do appreciate it.
