GDM not working while booting hardy kernel 2.6.24-15-generic

Hi all,
 While booting with the latest Hardy kernel 2.6.24-15 it waits for a long time at
modprobe : WARNING Not loading blocklisted module ipv6
Then have to do CTRL+ALT+DEL after which it starts the booting process again but the hdd is put in write protect . GDM refuses to start and I get the following error :-

"Server Authorization"

Directory (daemon/ServerAuthorDir) is set to /var/lib/gdm but is not owned by user 109 and group 116. Please correct the ownership or GDM configuration and restart GDM "

Waiting for some time, something like 5-10 mins it loads up the GDM but gives a box saying
fails to initialize HAL.

Subscribing Ben Collins of Ubuntu Kernel Team, perhaps he can see what the issue is. Lemme know if more info. is needed.

for me the problem seems to be related to hal.

mine is also a duplicate of bug 212271 perhaps as I also have the SAA7134 TV card. Would read and put the required stuff there & then mark it duplicate if need be.
