Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-686-smp
Hi,
i seem to have a somewhat disturbing kernel bug on my machine, it is an AMD X2 running 686 smp kernel.
Due to powernowd (for cool&quiet ) the clocksource seems to be always unstable.
uname -a
2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Feb 12 07:42:25 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
dmesg:
....
Time: hpet clocksource has been installed.
hpet_resources: 0xfed00000 is busy
Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = -71034388 ns)
....
Therefore booting is slow and takes some time. Sadly, the Kubuntu 8.04 Beta Live CD behaves the same on my machine.
Any suggestion? Shall i try another clocksource as boot parameter like acpi_pm?
cat /sys/devices/
hpet
cat /sys/devices/
hpet acpi_pm jiffies tsc
If possible, i'd like to keep acpi and cool&quiet on.
And furthermore am i the only one, having this?
Somehow it seems to affect my keyboard as well, sometimes i cant type at all, sometimes i get a lot of keystrokes at once.
Could this affect possible "bug" the kbd scan rate?
regards

I am having the same problem. Maybe this is related to https:/ /bugs.launchpad .net/ubuntu/ +source/ linux/+ bug/190414 ?
Adding clocksource=hpet to the kernel parameters seemed to work for me. As for the keyboard, I don't know - the problem is so intermittent for me that it would be impossible to troubleshoot. It happens maybe once or twice a day, depending on how much I use my computer, and doesn't seem to really be reproducible.
