Thank you for filing this bug and make Ubuntu better!

Can you try this kernel parameter editing your grub:

i915.enable_dc=0 intel_idle.max_cstate=2

and see if this fixes your flickering?

I am also facing the same issue happening occasionally. Initially, I thought it was a hardware error, but the time when this started and the update to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS coincided with each other.

Please let me know any steps to confirm or any potential solution to the problem.

@ Arpan #4

probably a duplicate of bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1958191

We will let the devs decide to keep this seperate or duped

Hi @lotuspsychje,

As per your comment on #2, I have updated the kernel parameter:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.enable_dc=0 intel_idle.max_cstate=2"

Also ran "sudo update-grub" after that.

Hope this will fix it. Will observe for the next 2-3 days.

UPDATE:
I did not see the same issue ever after the kernel parameter update.

Disabling GPU power management does not solve screen flickering problem.

I have reverted and re-installed 24.04 upgrade on two occasions both times,, same issue,

This work round only slows the occurrences of flickering, it does not fix the issue for me on my Dell Insperion 9555 Intel i7 64/16Gb 1Tb Radeon GPU.

Well guys, yesterday I had the brilliant idea to update my Ubuntu from 23.10 to 24.04 LTS.

Silly me for not doing much research, but my laptop (which I use for work) has burst all its graphic power, I don't know who has decided to leave it like this, knowing that 23.10 and 24.04 are practically merged, many things fixed about jumps to server machines and so on but goodbye to graphics for a few months.

But if someone has this problem I give you my solution, tested on Intel I5, I7 (from generation 11 to 14), Nvidia graphics.

From Softwares and Updates just choose the option go to Additional Drivers, use the last option X.Org X server. Restart the machine and at the start of the session when you choose the user at the bottom right you will have the type of ENV desktop you want to use, set the Xorg.

With this you won't be able to use many NVIDIA features like graphics or CUDAS processing, but you can put it in the secondary options if you need to render images or video.

Sorry I can't give more information or details about it, I just "fixed" 20 machines in my company and I'm doing my tests, I'll put something more when I have more data.
