Bug Description

Lenovo Docking Station Issue with Ubuntu 22.04 Sleep mode Recovery

Hello,
We are having trouble with our lenovo p1 laptops docking stations. When waking from suspend on Ubuntu with a docking station is an issue for some users even with Intel AMT disabled in BIOS.
The exact steps to reproduce are as follows:
1) Suspend/sleep the laptop
2) Plug the docking station into the laptop
3) Wake the laptop

The sleep settings in BIOS are set to Linux S3. Docking station issues, such as Ethernet not working after waking, do not occur with Windows/Linux sleep settings, but the laptop doesn't properly suspend processes in Windows/Linux sleep mode and will overheat the laptop when in an enclosed space such as a bag. Linux S3 is the only way we've found laptops to not overheat after suspending, but we that makes the dock inoperable after waking from suspend.

Both Legacy S3 and s2idle power consumption are 1.1w.

After update ME fw to 1.27.2176 via fwupdmgr.
s2idle power consumption is increased to 2.2w.

In legacy S3, TBT controller can't resume to D0 status.

It should be related to TBT/BIOS firmware.

Log attached.

Can we get the system config details please - CPU, GPU in particular. Also confirm if WWAN is enabled
Which dock is being used?

Can you confirm if AMT is enabled or not in the BIOS?
We've seen issues with AMT enabled with the TBT dock, especially with networking.

Will look to reproduce the issue with high power numbers after the ME FW update - agreed that looks like a FW issue.

Sure Mark. I have some information handy:

grep "model name" /proc/cpuinfo | head -n 1
model name : 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900H

GPU:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation Device [10de:2438] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
        Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:22f8]

The dock is:
ThinkPad Thunderbolt 4 Dock:
│ │ Device ID: c0170efdf195b8590000fa21474253c0d97e7335
│ │ Current version: 10.11
│ │ Vendor: Lenovo (USB:0x17EF)

No WWAN seems to be in use according to the logs.

I'm checking with the user about the AMT status.

The ethernet on Dock should be this one;
usb-0000:57:00.0-1.4, ASIX AX88179 USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet

My TBT 4 Dock is I225, which is enabled by 12900H vPro CPU.
