Bug Description

After the standard update procedure and installation of a new version of the kernel, the touchpad on the MacBook Pro 13 - 2014 stopped working. Even the mouse cursor does not appear on the screen.
If you select the old kernel version 6.6 in the bootloader options, then everything works correctly

Ubuntu 24.04

I don't have the hardware at the moment. It'd be great if you could do a test with the latest mainline build, so that we can better understand if it's an upstream issue or something specific with the Ubuntu kernel (or maybe a kernel .config issue):

https://kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/v6.8.1/

Thanks!

Latest mainline build of kernel 6.8.1 is working. Touchpad on MacbookPro 2012 is working now. Thanks! This kernel is coming to Ubuntu 24.04?

@tijs not exactly that kernel, but a kernel that has all the fixes that are included in 6.8.1. :)

If you are willing to do one more test to confirm that everything is fine in the next candidate kernel for 24.04, you could try with 6.8.0-20.20 from this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/bootstrap

Somehow I can't get 6.8.0-20 after adding the ppa and updating. But in some way I got the 6.8.0-19 kernel now (from proposed?) and that's working fine with the touchpad.

@tijs thanks for testing it! If 6.8.0-19 is working I assume that also the latest kernel in release (6.8.0-22.22) is also working. If that's the case I think we can close this for now.

@arighi Yes it's working with 6.8.0-22.22. Thanks!
