Kernels 6.2 and 6.5: cannot adjust screen brightness

Bug Description

After upgrading to LM 21.3 I could no longer adjust screen brightness. Reverted to kernel 6.2 but the problem remained. Reverted to kernel 5.15.0-91 generic and that solved the problem.
