Bug Description

There is a regression in the kernel somewhere between: linux-image-5.19.0-21-generic and linux-image-5.19.0-41-generic that is causing battery drain on an HP Spectre x360 Convertible 14-ea1xxx.

I am attaching the logs from running this tool: https://github.com/intel/S0ixSelftestTool on both kernels.

I have tested this with the kernel from Ubuntu 23.04 (version 6.2) and the mainline kernel 6.3 and the results are the same as linux-image-5.19.0-41-generic - zero s0ix residence.

I am also attaching the output from:

sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/pmc_core/pch_ip_power_gating_status

I think the key line is:

PCH IP: 6 - SPC State: On

This never turns to Off on the newer kernels.

I am now back to Ubuntu 22.04.2 to workaround this bug.

It is NOT present on linux-image-5.19.0-32-generic and linux-image-5.15.0-71-generic.

I think I am facing the same issue with my Asus Vivibook S3402. This laptop had a keyboard detection issue with stock kernel in kubuntu 22.10 which was fixed using a patched kernel. It still had this battery drain issue then. Later the signed kernel (5.19.0-27) that came in through the proposed repositories fixed both issues. Now, upgrading the kubuntu 23.04 with kernel 6.2.0-20, the battery drain on suspend has come back.
