This is the same problem that Remy Dyer described above, and which I (and some others) also have with the same card and ALSA 1.0.16. Haven't found a solution yet.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 alpha?

Hey, this is not a bug.
You need the alsa-firmware -package, wich cant be included in ubuntu for legal issues.

You can install it using the Medibuntu-Repository:

Well, it works for me with intrepid.
I used usb-creator to create a live-system and just installed alsa-firmware. (And rebooted)

Maybe you could try this, too?

greetings

Hi all,

I confirm the bug, it happens only on EMU0404 PCI cards.

It seems there is different card version.

[ 43.841253] ALSA /build/buildd/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-2.6.24/debian/build/build-generic/sound/alsa-driver/pci/emu10k1/emu10k1_main.c:893: emu1010: Loading Hana Firmware file failed, reg=0x7f

Same issue.

We do compile alsa from source, please refer to following link for outputs:

http://didouchk.free.fr/logcomplet

If any needs tell me , issue can be easily reproduced.

We also made a tutorial to install this card, only few users are impacted.

We installed this card on several systems without any issue, only few of these cards are impacted (different chip ?)

Unfortunately people who have the early [1102:0004] version of this card probably won't make it work. With or without new alsa version og firmware-loaders. You can check if you should throw yours away or it makes sense to try and make it work by checking the output of:
lspci -nn
If you, at the end, after the name of the card have [1102:0004] throw it away, if you get [1102:0008], you CAN make it work. The 0004 version has different fpga-chip fra Xilinx. It won't load, so don't waste your precious time.

Ok. Just in case. If anyone have a 0004 version working on a linux system. Please report it. But it's probably not the case.
