Bug Description

xrandr lists four disconnected DPs (though my laptop has zero Display Ports) but does not list an HDMI, which is what I use to connect external monitor. Cable is sound b/c I have a dual boot setup and Windows recognizes the display without issue.

Using Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS
I expected OS to recognize that I have a an HDMI port or alternatively that something is plugged into it
OS does not seem to acknowledge same

Hi - sorry I gave up and settled for running Xubuntu with VirtualBox in Windows. But I would still like to get to the bottom of the issue. In answer to your question, yes, the issue is the same regardless of whether I log into a Wayland session or xorg.

I also tried upgrading to 22.10 to see if that would solve it, but alas it did not.

Sounds like a kernel issue. Please run this command to see what ports the kernel thinks are connected:

  grep . /sys/class/drm/*/status

Thanks Daniel, output is below:

As far as physical ports, my laptop has 1 HDMI, 2 USB 2.0, 1 high-speed USB, and a headphone jack.

Thank you Daniel; I've installed kernel version 6.0.3, but it does not appear to have substantively affected the issue

It's possible that one of card0-DP-* is actually the HDMI port just mislabelled by the kernel. In that case it could be a connection problem specific to Linux. Do you have any other cables to try?

Hie,
I have the same problem with my computer HP 17-cn2119 under Kubuntu 22.04. I tried also Kubuntu 23.04 and 23.10, same problem. I also tested openSuse 15.5 ans there was the same issue.
Screen and HDMI cable worked with the previous computer, and work actually on Windows 11 (dualboot).
Seems to be a Linux problem.
