I have the same problem in Windows Subsystem for Linux, Ubuntu 20.04 I have a CIFS share containing 24 DFS folders. Opening any subfolder in the share causes an instant kernel panic. I do not have this problem on embedded hardware reading from the same share running the xilinx 4.6.0 kernel and 16.04LTS derivative (Petalinux 2016). 'Virtual Machine' has encountered a fatal error. The guest operating system reported that it failed with the following error codes: ErrorCode0: 0x0, ErrorCode1: 0x0, ErrorCode2: 0x0, ErrorCode3: 0x0, ErrorCode4: 0x0. If the problem persists, contact Product Support for the guest operating system.
