Bug Description

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS amd64.
Updating to kernel 5.4.0-84 seems to have been the cause.

It's a known bug in the Linux kernel

This is the upstream bug:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213795

There's a patch there too.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1943616/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem. While running an Ubuntu kernel (not a mainline or third-party kernel) please enter the following command in a terminal window:

apport-collect 1943616

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the Ubuntu Kernel Team.

I tried to set the package for this bug to 'linux' but launchpad won't let me.
It returns the error "There is 1 error in the data you entered. Please fix it and try again. A fix for this bug has already been requested for linux in Ubuntu"

This says kernel bugs should be listed under 'linux'
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#Kernel

Edit: looks like the linux package setting went through after all!?

Edit 2: No need for logs. It's a known upstream bug see #1
Updating to 'linux-image-5.4.0-84-generic' package and dependencies seems to have been the cause.
This issue wasn't in 'linux-image-5.4.0-81-generic' package and dependencies.

As a workaround, if you leave a disc in the drive it seems to stop the unwanted eject.

I've done the upgrade to kernel 5.4.0-86, and the problem is still present. Leaving a unsed CD/DVD in the drawer and unmounting it is still an effective workaround.
