Thanks Kai-Heng.

I added the text "i2c_hid.debug=1" to the line "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT" of /etc/default/grub.

Somehow i2c-hid doesn't probe the device...

This looks related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1902154 since the 2 laptop models are nearly identical.
